Our outstanding footballer Diego Sánchez Pérez (18/07/2003) celebrates 50 games with Real Sporting de Gijón.
The very young and talented defender from Asturias, at 21 years of age, has reached this more than deserved number of games played with the team of his life. Raised and trained in Mareo’s excellent and fruitful youth academy, Diego Sánchez made his debut for Real Sporting de Gijón on May 29, 2022 against UD Las Palmas at El Molinón Enrique Castro “Quini” stadium. Since his debut he has not stopped growing and has established himself as an excellent defender in the Asturian team. Diego can play both as a left central defender and as a left back. We are dealing with a left-sided defender of great quality, with a great ball delivery and a great association capacity. He also has a great ball striking, which helps him in his long movements and when he has to cross on the wing, when he acts as a left back. Expeditious and aggressive in marking, he is very difficult to beat both in aerial duels and in actions in play, as he is a very fast defender and very intelligent in his actions. A good example of his versatility is that he has played both left back and left center back in a line with three center backs and as a left center back also in a line with four defenders. Despite his enormous youth, this is a player with a great personality and a lot of character, who does not give in to anyone and who does not mind playing in front of 30,000 spectators in a stadium as imposing as El Molinón Enrique Castro “Quini” stadium. With only 21 years old, Diego has a maturity out of the ordinary, and good proof of this is to be able to complete 50 games with the shirt of Real Sporting de Gijón in a position as complicated as that of central defender and left back, where they usually look for older and more experienced players, in a category as complicated as the Hypermotion League and even more so in a winning project as is that of Real Sporting de Gijón. The outstanding and talented defender from Avilés aspires to be able to enjoy this season to get into the playoffs with his team, a position that entitles him to play the playoff for promotion to the First Division with his team.
