Outstanding debut in First Division of our excellent soccer player, Pelayo Fernández Balboa (29/04/2003), with his team, Rayo Vallecano.
In the match played against Alavés this past Saturday at the Mendizorroza Stadium, Pelayo Fernández made his league debut. The sensational central defender was a starter and played all 90 minutes of the match. The team from Madrid was the winner of the match, beating Deportivo Alavés by 0-2.
Pelayo had a very outstanding participation in the match. Fast and attentive in all defensive vigilance, he was able to impose himself on the Basque team’s forwards and thwarted any attempt to score a goal by the rival team. He was a winner in all kinds of duels, both in the air and in disputes. With the ball, he once again demonstrated his great technical quality, both in short passing and long passing. Fast and focused at all times, Pelayo could not have had a better debut, keeping a clean sheet and achieving an important victory for his team away from home.
The more than talented defender from Asturias has fulfilled a dream by making his debut in the top Spanish competition with his team at the age of 21. Arriving this season from FC Barcelona, he has not missed his chance and gave his best version to get three very important points for his team and, in this way, break the bad streak of five consecutive matches without knowing the victory.
Pelayo is a center back with a large wingspan, 1.93 m tall, fast and powerful in the run, who dominates the aerial game both in the defensive and offensive phase, and who is always very focused on the game. As a good FC Barcelona youth team player, he has a great ball out from the back and, thanks to his good vision and his great ball striking, he is always able to filter good passes or move with very precise diagonals to the wing players. When he has to be forceful, he is, and at 21 years of age, he has a very promising future ahead of him.
The high pressure that the Vallecano team always tries to implement suits him perfectly, as he is very aggressive in pressing forward and, when they look for his back, he always shows his great running speed thanks to his enormous stride.
