Shining on the Pitch: Diego Sánchez, Marotías, Javi Sola and Ariel Herrero, Stars of the Matchday

Four standout names who shone with their teams this matchday

Four Mesas Sport players left their mark this weekend. Diego Sánchez and Marotías delivered in demanding matches, Javi Sola celebrated his first goal in Primera Federación and Ariel Herrero was decisive for Estepona.

Diego Sánchez | Real Sporting de Gijón

Real Sporting de Gijón won 3-2 against Celta Fortuna in a match where Diego Sánchez came on after halftime.

He brought solidity and composure to the defense in a second half that demanded experience and determination to secure all three points.

Developed at Mareo and with a deep sense of belonging to Sporting, Diego is 23 years old and has already accumulated over 100 matches with the Gijón side. He’s a quick center-back with an excellent left foot and the composure to respond when the team needs him. Against Celta Fortuna he proved it once again.

Marotías

Marotías, center-back for Barakaldo CF, came on after halftime with his team down to nine men. In a match that demanded resilience and fighting for every ball, he responded with strength in duels and the composure needed to help hold the team together.

He also played a part in the decisive moment. The goal that allowed Barakaldo to earn a point despite being down to nine men came from one of his powerful strikes.

Left-footed, decisive in defense and with great technical quality to play the ball out, Marotías showed his ability to influence the match even in the most difficult circumstances.

Javi Sola

Javi Sola’s technical quality is carrying increasing weight in Athletic Club‘s reserve team’s play. A left-footed midfielder, he’s establishing himself in the ‘6’ position, from where he’s constantly involved in building attacks and demonstrates great ability to connect with teammates further forward.

To his ability on the ball he adds strong defensive commitment and energy to repeat efforts. His work in both phases is making him a key player for the team in a position of enormous responsibility.

After training with the first team all week, he was rewarded by scoring his first goal in Primera Federación with a fine left-footed strike. Javi is a player of enormous potential in whom great hopes are placed, and this start to the season is backing up that confidence.

Ariel Herrero

Ariel Herrero was decisive in Estepona‘s victory with a brace, both goals from the penalty spot. He took responsibility on two occasions and helped his team earn three points.

Ariel is in his second season at Estepona as a reference striker in the division. His numbers prove it. He scored 11 goals with CD Covadonga and 13 with Sanse. Last campaign he netted 8 with Estepona despite being injured during the first part of the year. Since arriving at Estepona, he’s been a very important player for the team.

With good physical presence, dangerous inside the box and a special instinct for goal, Ariel continues to repay the confidence with what he does best—score goals. His brace this weekend takes his tally to 10 goals in 24 official matches with Estepona.
